Last Ford Falcon leaves the plant in Australia

The last Ford Falcon and Territory left the production line Broadmedows, Australia, ending 91 years of production of Ford in the southern country. The last four vehicles to be produced at the plant – a Ford Falcon XR6 sedan, XR6 Turbo Ute XR6 Sprint and Territory Titanium – will be auctioned on 15 October and the proceeds will be donated to charity.

Ford announced the closure of its plants in Australia in 2013. The closures mean a reduction of about 1,200 jobs between Broadmedows plant and facilities in Geelong Stamping, which had production Falcon, Falcon Ute and Territory models Ford Performance Vehicles .

The reasons behind the decision to end the Australian production come after Ford lost money as a result of a strong Australian dollar and stiff competition on Asian imports. Ford Australia lost $ 583 million between 2008 and 2013.

Following that announcement, General Motors and Toyota took similar decisions to close its manufacturing operations in Australia, causing danger in the automotive industry of that country, including suppliers.
