This month, Audi launched a new feature that informs drivers of the remaining time they have to be stopped at a traffic light. For now, the feature is only available in Las Vegas, which has the necessary technology to communicate information on traffic lights to some Audi models.
Light Traffic Information is a new feature available in the Audi A4, Q7 and A4 All Road 2017 built after June 1, 2016 and are equipped with Audi Connect and PRIME subscription. Through 4G LTE connection, these cars receive the information system traffic management. Audi has partnered with Traffic Technology Services, an information provider for connected cars to facilitate information and transfer of information at stoplights to Audi vehicles.
A countdown appears on the board, letting drivers know the amount of time remaining until the light turns green. In the long term, information traffic lights can be optimized for the start / stop system at the right time, optimizing routes in the navigation system and the recommended speed so the driver can pass as many traffic lights green.
Las Vegas is the first city to have communication vehicle-infrastructure technology. Audi says it will expand the availability of its feature Light Traffic Information to other cities in the United States as the infrastructure expands.
